Intimate partner and domestic violence

    Intimate partner and domestic violence

National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) co-ordinates national work for the prevention of intimate partner and domestic violence, and supports national, regional and local prevention efforts. In addition, municipalities can consult THL on issues linked to intimate partner and domestic violence. The responsibility for activity co-ordination was assigned to STAKES (1.1.2009 THL) at the beginning of 2008.

    The aim is to:

    • Increase knowledge and skills in the prevention of intimate partner and domestic violence
    • Maintain top expertise in the area
    • Maintain a network of contact persons in municipalities/sub-regions
    • Support the development of preventive working methods so as to move away from a sole focus on corrective measures in intimate partner and domestic violence
    • Set up a new website on violence for providing information to professionals and victims of violence
    • What is intimate partner and domestic violence?
