The Finnish Healthy Cities Network
The Finnish National Healthy Cities Network was founded in 1996
with the objective to assist in the local implementation of
Finland's Health for All 2000 policy. Today the priorities of the
Network are still based on Health for All principles, and the focus
of the work is to support cities with methodologies and tools,
develop and implement health promotion policies, support national
health promotion policy and evaluation.
National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health
acts as the co-ordinator and secretary for the Network's Management
Board. STAKES operates according to the general aims of the
Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. The close relationship to
STAKES provides the National Network with developmental support and
also aids the Network in disseminating information to
municipalities throughout Finland.
The network follows The Finnish Resolution on the Health 2015
public health programme and the goals of the WHO´s national
networks. The network also co-operates with the WHO Collaborating
