Healthy Cities Network
|
Action
The Finnish Network includes the region of Kainuu, the
subregions of Järviseutu and Oulunkaari, as well as ten specific
municipalities, namely Jyväskylä, Kerava, Kittilä, Kuopio,
Lappajärvi, Pori, Tampere, Turku, Utajärvi, Vantaa. In all, this
involves 28 municipalities, comprising nearly 20 % (980 000
inhabitants) of the Finnish population. Turku and Kuopio (since
2005) are members of WHO´s Healthy Cities network.
The Network´s activities and goals are defined in Network
meetings (twice annually). A management board, nominated for the
whole period 2005 - 2008, is responsible for the development and
planning activities.
The Network has no membership fee. Funds are earmarked by each
municipality for spending on its own Network activities. The
Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and STAKES also contribute to
the funding of the Network´s general running costs.
Network activities, common to all municipalities, include
Network meetings, business meetings at local level, development of
working methods, organisation of training events, collection of
material for development efforts, information transmission and
participation in international networks. Co-operation also takes
place by circulating Network letters by e-mail and by maintaining
web sites both at STAKES and in Network
municipalities. |
