Good practice - Regions/Countries
In Rwanda the Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) is
supporting disabled people's organisation to get involved in the
national Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS - Economic Development
and Poverty Reduction Strategy). To know more about the activities

In Bangladesh several disabled people's organisations and
other civil society stakeholders working in the field of disability
have been actively involved in the PRSP formulation phase. These
experiences are summarised by Khandaker Jahurul Alam President of
the National Forum of Organizations Working with the Disabled
(NFOWD) and Executive Director of the Centre for Services and
Information on Disability (CSID)
(rtf document).
Action on
Disability and Development has also worked intensively on PRSP.
Their findings are compiled in a
report (rtf doc) based on consultations and
round-table discussions held in 2004. The
power point presentation gives a short
overview on the subject.
SHARE-SEE (Self-Help & Advocacy for Rights
and Equal Opportunities South East Europe) organised round tables
in Sarajevo and Belgrade about various issues related to
disability and development (e.g. the Serbian PRSP)
The Secretariat of the African Decade of disability is equally
involved in PRSP awareness within PwD and will be facilitating
workshops in 5 countries of: Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Mozambique
and Senegal in June and July 2005.

Handicap International supported or worked together with local
DPOs in Bangladesh, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Honduras and
Nicaragua to bring the issue disability in the national
PRSPs.
In Uganda, disability issues have been incorporated in
the Poverty Eradication Action Plan (PEAP) . People
with disabilities have been closely involved in the preparation

In Tanzania, Disabled People's Organizations and other
Civil Society Organizations have organized themselves to contribute
to the PRSP process. Handicap International and
Christoffel-Blindenmission are supporting the process. One of the
outputs will be a handbook: Making PRSP Accessible. It will be
