Mediation in Criminal and Civil Cases

Mediation offices and State Provincial Offices

Mediation offices receive mediation requests and co-operate with various authorities throughout the mediation process. Each mediation case is assigned to a voluntary mediator who is chosen by professionals working at the mediation office. Mediators undertake mediation cases and related practicalities in co-operation with the mediation office. The office staff also guide and supervise the mediators in their work.

State Provincial Offices also co-operate with mediation offices. They ensure that mediation services are available to all on equal terms through providing guidance, advice and supervision. Mediation offices provide mediation services on the basis of a commission agreement and receive compensation from government funds for the service provision. The compensation is allocated by State Provincial Offices. Entitlement to compensation from government funds is specified in Act 9.12.2005/1015.
