Problem gambling

Problem gambling

The new National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) is set to start operations on 1 January 2009, following the merger of the National Public Health Institute (KTL) and the National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health (STAKES).

THL produces and maintains this website in co-operation with the Prevention and Treatment of Problem Gambling project run by the Centre of Expertise on Social Welfare in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area (SOCCA).

Most Finns sometimes engage in gambling. While most gamblers have no problems, some may find it difficult to control their gambling.

This website offers material to support the prevention and treatment of problem gambling. The main target group is people who encounter problem gambling in their work but the material is also useful for others, including policy-makers, journalists, trainers, and students. The service is mostly in Finnish. Here you can find a summary of the website content.
