Hospital benchmarking
The Hospital Benchmarking project, launched in 1997, is a joint
venture by STAKES, hospital districts and two foundation hospitals
in Finland. The project provides versatile information on the
inpatient and outpatient care, costs, and productivity of
hospitals. Hospitals can use this information for making
comparisons with each other, identifying areas of poor performance
and learning from the best.
The final results can only be viewed by the participating
hospitals, through user identification and password. However, the
results and the methodology have been increasingly published in
various reports and journals
(publications).
